New Cohort of Pharmacists Inducted in Ghana

Pharmacists Inducted in Ghana

The Ministry of Health, led by Hon. Kwabena Mintah Akandoh, welcomed a new group of pharmacists into the profession during a special induction ceremony organised by the Pharmacy Council of Ghana.

Held under the theme “The Future is Now: Young Pharmacists at the Forefront of Preventing Opioid Misuse in Ghana”, the event underscored both the opportunities and responsibilities awaiting the nation’s newest healthcare professionals.

Hon. Akandoh Marks a Milestone for Ghana’s Pharmacists

Addressing the inductees, Hon. Akandoh described the ceremony as a pivotal moment in their professional journey. “This day signifies the culmination of your dedication, hard work, and perseverance,” he said, encouraging the pharmacists to embrace the challenges and rewards ahead.

The Minister highlighted the critical role of pharmacists in Ghana’s healthcare system, describing them as frontline healthcare providers, educators, patient advocates, and public health guardians. He emphasised that pharmacists significantly influence health outcomes and the overall well-being of the community.

Combating Opioid Misuse: A Call to Action

A central focus of Hon. Akandoh’s address was the ongoing opioid crisis in Ghana, particularly the misuse of tramadol. “Opioid abuse is more than a public health concern; it is a national emergency,” he warned, urging new pharmacists to take an active role in prevention, education, and community outreach.

Supporting National Health Initiatives

Hon. Akandoh also highlighted the integral role of pharmacists in key government health programs such as MahamaCares and the Free Primary Health Care initiative. These programs rely heavily on pharmacists to provide accessible, high-quality healthcare and manage chronic diseases at the community level.

Upholding the Pharmacists’ Motto

The Minister reminded the inductees of their guiding principle: “Amicus Humanis Generis” – Friends of the Human Race. He encouraged them to uphold this motto with compassion, integrity, and professional excellence throughout their careers.

Congratulations to Ghana’s New Pharmacists

The Ministry of Health extends its congratulations to all newly inducted pharmacists and commends the Pharmacy Council of Ghana for its dedication to advancing healthcare excellence across the country.
